Different Types of Love

A favorite book of mine is “The Servant” by James C. Hunter. It is a book about leadership. One of the qualities he talks about is love. This is where I discovered the Greek’s had different words for different types of love. Unlike English, where love for ice cream is the same word as love for your spouse, the Greek distinguished between different types of love.

Eros is romantic type of love. Like you would refer to someone you love intimately.

Philia is the friendship love. Think BFF.

Agape is a general affection for, rather than attraction to. Think of having respect for someone.

Storge is a natural affection for. Think parents and their children.

Thelema is a desire. Think lust.

I think it’s important to understand the different types of love as we continue on our journey in life. Think about the different types of love and how they apply to your life. What do you think about the different types of love?
